Welcome to the Portland Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) page.

Portland is a "tied" island to the south of Weymouth with a population of around 12,000 and has one of the largest man-made harbours in the world.  The harbour has previously served as a Royal Navy Base and in more recent years was home to the sailing events for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games (at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy).

The NPT work alongside partner agencies and the local community to ensure Portland remains a safe place to live, work and visit. Working in partnership means we can tackle the issues that most affect local people.

Please see the Local Priorities section below for more specific and localised issues in your area that we are currently working on.

The NPT believe it’s vitally important that we are accessible to the communities we police. As such, we attend many local events and meetings where you can speak with us face-to-face, as well as regularly updating our social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter & Instagram) and arranging individual contact when required.

To come and speak with us at a local event or meeting, please see the Get Involved section below for further details. You can follow us on our local social media accounts by using the relevant links on the right hand side of this page.

If you need to report something or wish to speak to a local officer directly, you can visit the "Contact Us / Do It Online" section of the main Dorset website. For those who are unable to use the internet, you can still call 101 for non-emergencies and 999 should always be called for an emergency where a crime is in progress or life is in danger.
